![]() Kristin McLain's Get Out Girl Surf & Paddle Jam Weekend will take place October 17-18, 2015 on Lake Austin. The VIP and Top Fundraisers SURFjam will take place Saturday, while PaddleJAM is Sunday morning, both on upper Lake Austin. Benefiting The Flatwater Foundation, both events are exclusively for women of all ages, encouraging them to Get Out, Get Active and Get Connected in honor of fallen Star Flight Nurse, Kristin McLain, while supporting a great cause. On Sunday, the BabeShredder Team will join paddlers of all vessels (SUP, kayak, or canoe) to paddle an out and back course of 2 -10 miles with a three hour window of supported time on the water. This is one of the largest all female, fundraising paddle events in the US! Get Out Girl is a fitness & outdoor community that inspires, creates & shares opportunities for individuals, friends, and families to Get Out, Get Active & Get Connected. Through the healing and inspiring properties of outdoor activity and being on the water, we empower and encourage others to be part of a community and a purpose bigger than each of us individually. Get Out Girl Surf & Paddle Jam utilizes the amazing effects of being on the lake with other like minded people to grow personally and as a community. The event begins and ends at Steiner Ranch Lake Club on the upper end of Lake Austin. Paddlers can launch their own vessels or boards at the boat ramp or rent a SUP or kayak as part of registration (limited boards/kayaks available.). Following the event, hang out and enjoy some Surf/SUP Sample/Closeout shopping while enjoying music, food, and drinks with family and friends. The 2014 inaugural event was a huge success with over 60 women paddlers of all vessels (SUP, kayak, and canoe) come together to paddle for a common cause – The Flatwater Foundation. The Flatwater Foundation, which hosts the annual 21 mile Dam That Cancer event on Lake Austin, helps to pay for much-needed mental health treatment for individuals and families who have been affected by a cancer diagnosis. This includes access to traditional methods of counseling, as well as an integrated approach to wellness through exercise. Visit the Flatwater Foundation. Beginning in 2015, the annual Get Out Girl Paddle Jam event will be paddled in honor of Star Flight nurse, Kristin McLain, who lost her life in a helicopter rescue accident in April 2015 in Austin, TX. Kristin was part of Austin's Star Flight crew for seven years and lived in the Steiner Ranch area. Prior to serving with Star Flight, she was with Flight For Life in Summit County, CO for 2 1/2 year. Kristin was instrumental in creating the first Get Out Girl Paddle Jam and was passionate about sharing her love of paddling, wake surfing, Lake Austin and the outdoors. Kristin was a great supporter, volunteer and advocate both on and off the water for The Flatwater Foundation and the services they provide. Kristin understood the roots of The Flatwater Foundation and what time on the water can do for the body, mind and spirit. Many mornings Kristin could be found on the lake paddling her SUP decompressing after a long night of rescue work. This year first responders and medical teams that Kristin worked with in Travis County, TX and Summit County, CO, as well as surrounding areas are invited and encouraged to paddle to experience the tranquility and camaraderie that paddling provides. In Kristin’s honor and memory, Get Out Girl Paddle Jam will always be known as Kristin McLain's. More info, contact and donations can be found here! |
